DOT works to repair damaged road signs after Florence
DOT crews work to repair directional signs on US 421. (Photo: Matt Bennett/WWAY)NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Many signs were damaged along area roads after Hurricane Florence, and now crews are working to get those back up.
DOT spokesman Andrew Barksdale says there are still 24 road closures in Highway Division 3, which includes New Hanover, Brunswick, Onslow, Pender, Sampson, and Duplin counties.

He says as crews make repairs to those roads, they are also replacing directional signs.
He says they have brought in extra sign crews from Raleigh, Rocky Mount, and other areas to assist with repairs.
They do not know yet how many signs were damaged, but Barksdale says they are working to fix them as quickly as they can.
“We’re hoping to get all of the roads open, I think, by the end of this year in Division 3. And we’re already in October so it will take the next few months to get every single road reopened, and I think our timeline for getting all the directional signs fixed would be very comparable to that as well,” said Barksdale.
