Best Buy reopens 2 months after Florence
The electronics store opened for the first time since before the hurricane on Friday
WILMINGTON – Electronics fans, rejoice.
Wilmington’s Best Buy reopened its doors Friday, two months and five days after it closed for Hurricane Florence.
During the storm, the area’s biggest electronics store sustained significant roof and water damage, which required the extended closure to handle repairs.
About 25 people stormed the doors of Best Buy Friday after a very brief ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring remarks from Wilmington Mayor Pro Tem Margret Haynes and New Hanover County Commission Chairman Woody White.
Haynes thanked the store’s manager for being a good corporate partner for the community and acknowledged that company continued to pay its employees during the closure if they volunteered with recovery efforts in the community.
“We’re so happy you’re back open,” Haynes.
Best Buy opens in time for Black Friday, the year’s biggest shopping day, which will arrive on Thanksgiving night next week.
