Port Aransas welcomes tourism after Harvey

Almost two years since the Texas Gulf Coast beach town of Port Aransas was devastated by the initial impact of Hurricane Harvey, the chamber of commerce and tourism bureau is ready to welcome visitors during the spring and summer seasons.

Known affectionately by local residents as “Port A,” the town stretches along 18 miles of beach on Mustang Island.

Port Aransas was named a top beach town in 2018 by Fodor’s and Travel Pulse.

Sixty independently-owned restaurants and 80 percent of the 4,200 lodging units in Port Aransas are now open. 

Upcoming events in Port Aransas include the following:

• Texas SandFest, one of the the largest beach festivals in Texas and the largest native-sand sculpture competition in the U.S., takes place from April 26 until April 29.
• Port Aransas Art Center’s Songwriters’ Showcase on May 13
• Port Aransas Artfest from May 25 until May 26
• Deep Sea Roundup, the Gulf Coast’s oldest fishing tournament, from July 11 until July 14
• Palmilla Beach Resort & Golf Club grand opening on Memorial Day weekend

Port Aransas features more than ten bring-your-own-catch restaurants that will prepare your freshly-caught fish to your liking.
