CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) –

Hours before Hurricane Florence made landfall, Carolina Beach was feeling its effects Thursday.

Shortly before noon, WECT’s Colin Hackman gave viewers a look at the surf.

Huge waves could already be seen hitting the beach.

“Already I’d say eight-to-10-foot seas,” WECT’s Colin Hackman said shortly before noon. “Some of these waves look like they would be fun to surf if there wasn’t a 20 to 25-mile-per-hour north wind. And that’s going to continue to increase over the course of the next few hours. And then we’re going into the meat of this thing. We’re talking about tropical storm force winds, talking about storm surge. We’re talking about the protection of life and property.”
