Tornado watch until 8 p.m. for much of Central Texas

AUSTIN, Texas — Scattered showers and isolated severe storms will be possible through Saturday evening. A tornado watch has been issued for a majority of Central Texas until 8 p.m. on Saturday.

The overall best chance for widespread severe storms will be for parts of north and northeast Texas. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted Central Texas and the KVUE viewing area in either a “slight” risk – two out of five risk – or an “enhanced” risk – three out of five risk – for severe weather. That includes the threat of large hail, damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

Although widespread severe storms are not expected here, isolated severe storms will be possible. The best chance for those isolated severe storms will be early this evening for areas along and east of IH-35.

Lingering storms are possible east of Austin through the late evening, but we’ll be mainly dry overnight.

Sunday will be mainly dry and much warmer with highs in the low 90s.
