National Weather Service says two tornadoes touched down in Triangle
Raleigh, N.C. — The National Weather Service confirms two tornadoes touched down during the storms we received on Tuesday.
The NWS said a brief EF-0 tornado touched down in Willow Springs in Wake County. Suggested wind speeds were between 75-85 mph and led to snapped and uprooted trees, minor siding damage to a home and numerous fences blown down. WRAL’s Kasey Cunningham spoke with one family who had damage to the front of their home but none to the back.
A second tornado, an EF-1, touched down briefly 11 miles southwest of Clayton in Johnston County. It was centered near the intersection of Cornwallis Road and Justin Drive. There was minor shingle damage on several homes, some softwood trees were snapped and lawn furniture tossed a substantial distance.
The NWS said the damage was consistent for an EF-1 tornado measuring between 80-90 mph.
