SCHOOLS
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — New Hanover County Schools announces the following schedule changes and closings in anticipation of Hurricane Dorian and its potential impact on the Cape Fear region:
NHCS will operate on a normal, full-day schedule for students and staff on Tuesday, Sept. 3. However, there will be no evening activities such as athletics and drivers education. Schools will be closed for students on Wednesday, Sept. 4. It will be an optional workday with early release for employees. District employees should check with their supervisors, directors, or principals for more information on the early release. Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday, Sept. 5. District leaders will continue to monitor the storm. Plans for Friday, Sept. 6, will be announced at a later time. Make-up days will be determined once the storm has passed. PENDER COUNTY — As Hurricane Dorian approaches the East Coast, Pender County Schools is working diligently to keep you informed. After meeting with emergency officials and county leadership, the following determinations have been made:
School will be held on Tuesday on a regular schedule throughout the county. Wednesday and Thursday, school will be canceled. In addition, all after school activities are postponed starting Tuesday through Thursday.
School, county and regional officials will reconvene later in the week to make a determination about Friday for both regular school and after school activities.
BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick County Schools will be operating on a half day early dismissal schedule Tuesday, Sept. 3. High schools will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m., middle schools at noon, and elementary schools at 12:45 p.m.
WILMINGTON — Cape Fear Academy will close on Wednesday, Sept. 4, until further notice due to potential impacts from Hurricane Dorian.
WILMINGTON — Cape Fear Community College will operate on a normal schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 3. However, the college will be closed on Wednesday, Sept. 4 and Thursday, Sept. 5 at all campus locations due to the potential regional impact of Hurricane Dorian. All events, including student events, athletic events, practices, and related activities are canceled on Wednesday and Thursday at all campus locations.
An update about the college’s schedule for Friday, Sept. 6, will be given at a later time.

WILMINGTON — UNCW has issued a mandatory evacuation, while New Hanover County emergency operations will activate Tuesday at 7 a.m. All university-sponsored and athletic events are canceled as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3. Grading and attendance policies are suspended until classes resume. Campus will operate on regular hours Tuesday, Sept. 3, and employees should report for duty as scheduled.
GOVERNMENT
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The New Hanover County Board of Education regular meeting, previously scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3 has been canceled. The Policy Committee meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3, has also been canceled. Both Board meetings are rescheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10. The Policy Committee meeting will be held at 4:15 p.m. and the regular board meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m.
BUSINESSES
BURGAW – Anticipating the potential effects of Hurricane Dorian, the regularly scheduled Planning Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4, will be cancelled and rescheduled to a later date. Also the scheduled Unified Development Ordinance update public input meeting for Thursday, Sept. 5, will be cancelled and rescheduled to a later date. TRANSPORTATION
WILMINGTON — Wave Transit will operate fixed-route bus and ADA accessible van service normal scheduled on Tuesday, Sept. 3. UNCW Seahawk Shuttle services have been cancelled effective Tuesday, Sept. 3-Friday, Sept. 6 but will resume normal schedule on Monday, Sept. 9. Fixed-route bus and ADA accessible van service will operate normal schedule until further notice. MISCELLANEOUS
WILMINGTON — The 2019 Wilmington Boat Show will be cancelled due to the potential impact of Hurricane Dorian. This is a difficult situation and safety is a priority. Also, due to a heavy event schedule in the Wilmington area, the show cannot be rescheduled in 2019.
We are working with officials from the City, Port City Marina, the Convention Center and Battleship Park to move the show out of September beginning in 2020.
WILMINGTON — The Arty Party scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7, at KGB has been postponed. It will be reschedule as soon as the threat from Hurricane Dorian has abated.
PENDER COUNTY — Due to the uncertainty of incoming Hurricane Dorian’s track and the projection of significant rainfall, Doug Shipley, Pender County Parks and Recreation director, announced Pender County parks will close at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 3, until after the storm passes. “After the storm, a determination will be made when to open park operations,” said Shipley.
