Tropical Storm Imelda: School closures in Houston and Southeast Texas
HOUSTON — As Tropical Storm Imelda inches closer to Texas’ Gulf Coast, school districts across the region are monitoring the weather closely.
THE LATEST: Tropical Storm Imelda forms in the Gulf; Tropical storm warning from Sargent to Port Bolivar
Tropical storm warnings have already been issued and the storm is “likely to produce life-threatening flash along portions of the Upper Texas Coast, including the Houston and Galveston areas,” according to the National Hurricane Center.
Heavy rain has is already coming down in many coastal areas Tuesday morning and it’s likely to continue area-wide over the next couple of days.

School closures in Houston and Southeast Texas
- Galveston ISD is announcing the decision to cancel classes for students Wednesday, September 18, 2019. The combination of pre-dawn rain and high tide indicate a probable safety issue for students and staff. Safe travel to and from Galveston ISD is a primary concern.Changing weather events and additional communication will be shared via www.gisd.org website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and local cable Channel 17.
