Houston Forecast: Tornado Watch in effect north of Houston area; windy day today
HOUSTON — A front pushing through Texas triggered storms early Easter morning.
A Tornado Watch has been issued until 12 p.m. Sunday for parts of Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The watch is in effect well north of Houston, however.

When to expect rain, storms in the Houston area
The best chance for rain today will be between 8 am. and noon on Easter Sunday, but some parts of town (especially the south side) may not even get a sprinkle. Areas south of I-10 could remain dry today as the warm layer cap that held Saturday will likely remain in place near the coast. Areas north of I-10 can expect a 60% rain chance Sunday morning.
After 12 p.m. today, the weather is looking nice all around with lower humidity and the return of sunshine by mid-afternoon. Our weather will turn very quiet for most of the week behind Sunday’s front. Look for mostly sunny skies with mild afternoon and chilly nights with many of us getting into the 40s for several mornings in a row (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings). Warmer temps, humidity and a slight chance for showers return for next weekend.
Severe weather possible north and northwest of Houston
The Storm Prediction Center has hatched the northern areas and the Brazos Valley (College Station) in an ‘Enhanced Risk’ (3 out of 5). As of 5 a.m. Sunday, the line of storms was moving along the I-35 corridor still far west of Houston in Central Texas.
That same system that will bring us a round of showers and storms early Sunday will be the same system that pushes into Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama Sunday evening where a dangerous atmospheric setup for severe weather awaits.
