The first disturbance of the 2020 hurricane season was reported Tuesday morning – weeks before the season starts.
The system, which currently sits just north of the Bahamas off Florida’s east coast in the Atlantic Ocean, has a 50 percent chance of developing into a named storm within five days, according to a bulletin issued by the National Hurricane Center at 10 a.m. Tuesday. It could form “subtropical characteristics” as it moves northeast through the weekend.
TODAY’S FORECAST: Showers expected tonight, with small risk for thunderstorms
The storm does not pose an immediate threat to Houston. We expect more information from the National Hurricane Center by Tuesday evening.
Hurricane season starts June 1.
