Flash flood warning issued for Bexar County as storms continue

The rest of the week will be a wet one as more severe storms are expected for San Antonio.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Bexar County and surrounding areas effective until 8 a.m. Thursday as storms continue across central Texas.

Flash flooding and river flooding are a concern as areas surrounding San Antonio could see up to four inches this weekend, though higher amounts are possible. Some areas could see isolated pockets of up to six inches of rain.

Meteorologists said the chances of a second round of rainfall expected Friday night through Saturday are increasing and flash flooding is likely in areas that have already seen heavy rainfall over the last few days.

Meteorologists are also anticipating frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes with Friday’s storms and warn that individuals may see “bolts from the blue” where lightning can strike 10 to 15 miles away from where it is actually raining.
