The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning in effect for northwestern Harris, eastern Waller, and southwestern Montgomery counties until 5 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was spotted near Hockley, 9 miles west of Tomball at 4:40 p.m. The system is moving northeast at 15 mph.
Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter.
If severe weather threatens in your area, please take cover now. NWS officials warn residents to move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a building, if you spot a tornado. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, move to the closest substantial shelter.
