Power restored to thousands along Outer Banks as Tropical Storm Isaias nears
Nags Head, N.C. — Some people along the Outer Banks had to deal with a power outage Sunday night that had nothing to do with the storm.
Thousands of people in the Nag’s Head area were without power as Tropical Storm Isaias got closer to North Carolina.
Equipment failure started a fire at a distribution station in Nags Head.
Thick black smoke filled the air at the substation as first responders shut down the street and told people to stay away.
Earlier Sunday, over 8,000 people were without power.
By 10:30 p.m., that number of people without power was down to 5,700. At 4:30 a.m. on Monday, 2,400 were without power. Power was restored by 7:30 a.m.
Dominion Energy officials said there is no estimated restoration time for the people still without power.
