– Florence made its presence known in neighborhoods across Charlotte, as fierce winds took their toll on several businesses in Plaza Midwood.

Part of the building that houses Three Amigos Mexican Restaurant, the Billiard Cafe and a roofing store on Central Avenue, came crashing down around 6 a.m., according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

The awning caused damage to a car that was in the parking lot. It’s unclear if anyone was injured.

Cinder blocks and wood debris were scattered around the parking lot. Officials have posted a sign on the building deeming it unsafe.

The unprecedented storm has caused mass flooding and damage throughout North Carolina. Federal officials and lawmakers on Sunday said that while they are well prepared for the disaster relief efforts as the damaging winds and rains from tropical depression Florence continue to batter the Eastern Seaboard, the long-term impact of the storm is still yet to be determined.

In Charlotte, soaking rains and wind have brought trees down into houses, adding to the total damage left in Florence’s wake.
