Tropical Storm Beta: Port Aransas to close its beaches as storm approaches the Texas coast
The chances of Beta becoming a hurricane is decreasing, but it could be near hurricane strength as it approaches the Texas coast. Accuweather
The city of Port Aransas will close its beaches Saturday evening as Tropical Storm Beta nears the Texas coast.
Port Aransas Mayor Charles Bujan issued a proclamation that will close the city’s beaches at 8 p.m. Saturday until further notice to prepare for severe weather conditions generated by the tropical storm, the Port Aransas South Jetty reported.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service Corpus Christi reported storm surge was evident on the sand dunes near Port Aransas and along beach access roads near Padre Island.
Corpus Christi area beach closures
Padre Island National Seashore also closed its roads to North Beach and South Beach by Saturday afternoon. Driving access to both beaches will be restored as soon as conditions allow, according to a news release sent by the national park service.
It is not clear if the city of Corpus Christi plans to close any of its beaches in the coming days as Beta approaches.
