Tropical Depression Claudette threatens to bring heavy rain, flooding to the Gulf Coast

Tropical Depression Claudette continues to move north along the Gulf Coast and is expected to move farther inland through parts of the southeastern U.S. through Sunday night.
Claudette has maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, according to an advisory issued at 4 p.m. CT from the National Hurricane Center.
The storm weakened from a tropical storm to a tropical depression Saturday afternoon, but is forecast become a tropical storm again Sunday night or early Monday when it moves across the Carolinas.
Tropical-storm-force winds extend 205 miles southeast from the center.
Claudette is located about 105 miles north of Mobile, Alabama, and is moving northeast at 16 mph.

A turn toward the northeast is expected later Saturday, followed by a motion toward the east-northeast Saturday evening or Sunday.
A tropical storm watch was in effect Saturday afternoon for Cape Fear to Duck, N.C., and Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds.
As of Saturday afternoon, Tropical Depression Claudette is expected to produce an additional 3 to 6 inches of rain, with some isolated areas getting up to 8 inches across eastern Alabama, northern Georgia, the Florida Panhandle, South Carolina and North Carolina.
Flooding is likely across these areas, according to the National Hurricane Center. A few tornadoes also are possible Saturday evening across southeast Alabama, the western Florida Panhandle, and southwest Georgia.
