NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — With the storm gone, clean up begins for many people throughout the Cape Fear. However, doctors are urging people to be careful as health risks present themselves, such as mold.

“I would encourage people to if something looks like it’s starting to get moldy and it can be thrown away go ahead and throw it away otherwise you need to make sure you clean that thoroughly,” Tidal Wellness Integrative Medicine Doctor Stephen Sasser said.

During cleanup, they advise people to drink water as much as possible because dehydration can become a major problem.

“I have already heard of a lot of, especially elderly folks, getting out doing stuff and getting dizzy so staying hydrated drinking extra water than you normally would if you’re going to be out doing that,” Sasser said.

Doctors recommend if you’re cleaning, to clean as thoroughly as possible.

“I would clean things very thoroughly use bleach if you can. Chronic conditions are a big issue so asthma people with allergies, there’s going to be a lot of things in the air,” Sasser said.
