Dry Wednesday evening; more flooding potential this weekend

AUSTIN, Texas — You’ll want to keep your umbrella nearby as we track a wet week ahead for Central Texas.

After this mornings rain, weather trends for the rest of Wednesday are expected to be much drier. However, the lingering rainfall will keep flood potential higher across Bastrop, Caldwell, Lee, and Fayette counties. Temperatures climb into the lower to mid-80s for Wednesday.

Rain chances will be more isolated in nature on Thursday as temperatures climb into the upper 80s to lower 90s. However, widespread rain chances return for late Friday and Mother’s Day weekend. This is when we will experience the highest flooding potential of the week. 

Friday night and Saturday especially will bring widespread rain and storms capable of torrential rain and flooding. The Weather Prediction Center currently includes the Hill Country and southern I-35 corridor in the ‘moderate’ risk for flash flooding. 

We expect the highest rainfall totals along and west of the I-35 corridor. We are hopeful that this will make a big dent in our drought and hopefully help our Highland Lakes, but this comes along with the risk for flooding.

We are currently expecting a widespread 5″-8″+ of rain over the next 7 days for the Hill Country. Rain chances may even continue into the beginning of next week. The KVUE Weather Team will keep a close eye on the forecast.
