Rain and storms move in Friday night; flooding threat continues through the weekend

AUSTIN, Texas — A Flood Watch has been issued for the entire KVUE area from 7 p.m. Friday through 8 p.m. on Saturday. During this timeframe, many areas could pick up 3 to 6 inches of rainfall. There could be isolated spots that receive as much as 8 to 10 inches of rainfall. 

The rest of Thursday night should be just about completely dry with just a 10% chance of a shower or a storm. Likewise, most of the day on Friday will be dry with just a few pop up storms during the afternoon with high temperatures near 90. 

Our first round of storms moves in Friday night into Saturday morning. The main concern is flooding, but there could also be a couple of severe storms with hail and gusty winds. Very heavy rainfall rates will also kick off our risk for flooding. 

After the first round, we expect additional rounds of rain and storms to move through Central Texas during the afternoon and evening on Saturday, and then again on Mother’s Day. 

All together, we expect many areas to receive 3″ to 6″ with locally higher amounts, especially south and southwest of Austin. This will create local flooding issues, and also bring the potential of creek, stream, and river flooding.
