Ahead of the heavy rain and flooding threat this weekend, crews are clearing out debris to minimize the flood risk.

AUSTIN, Texas — Crews from Austin’s Watershed Protection Department have been clearing out culverts to make sure they don’t get flooded with the expected heavy rainfall this weekend.

The crews work year-round clearing the culverts out, but said most of their work recently has been cleaning up debris from the winter storm back in February.

The City of Austin is urging residents to prepare for this possible flooding by cleaning out their drains and gutters. Anyone with large culverts can request crews to come clear them out.

The City also recommended having an emergency plan for your family and pets and signing up for regional emergency notifications to get alerts.

The City also suggested that if you need to travel, you should avoid driving through high water and around barricades.

Any road closures will be posted on ATXFloods’ website. And if you need to report flooding issues, you can call 311 or report it on the Austin 311 app.
