CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Right now
The National Weather Service has activated a Tornado Warning for a portion of Ashe County, North Carolina. The alert affects a section of the eastern part of the county and heads into west central Alleghany County.
The alert will remain active until 6:45 p.m. and was triggered after radar detection.
Neighbors in the area should remain in shelter, avoid windows, and stay in the innermost parts of their homes.
This evening
Scattered showers and storms this evening with lightning and pockets of heavy rainfall. Storms could have impact on tonight’s concert in Charlotte. If lightning is within 8 miles of Bank of America stadium, it could put a delay and stop to the concert.
Sunday
Rain chances are much lower for Sunday. Expect an isolated shower or storm during the afternoon as the cold front pushes through the Charlotte area. Aside from the low rain and storm chances, expect the heat and humidity remain relentless. Temperatures are expected to reach 90 with a heat index between 95 to 100.
Next week
Rain chances are decreasing for early next week. Both Monday and Tuesday are trending dry with little to no rain to kick off the work week. Temperatures will remain in the low 90s, but the heat index will ease up some due to slightly less humidity.
And be sure to take steps to stay cool, hydrated, and breaks from the ongoing heat. Our WCNC app is a great way to receive a notification when severe weather strikes.
