CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

Tonight:

Evening storms moving out but this line is severe with damaging winds near 60 mph. Once this line passes things get quiet until Monday. Lows tonight are only in the low 70s with areas of fog possible.

Monday

Severe storms are likely in the late afternoon and evening. The problem is before they hit we may see highs in the mid-90s with dew point in the mid-70s. This will lead to dangerous heat indices near 105°. For this reason, a heat advisory has been issued for parts of the area.

Then by late in the day and into the evening the heat will help fuel what could be very dangerous storms with winds above 60 mph. The risk of severe storms is high for summer so for this reason please stay weather aware for any watches or warnings. The risk for downbursts is very high along with small hail, lightning, and heavy rainfall.

It’ll be a pretty typical mid-August week in the Charlotte area after Monday’s storms. Mostly sunny and dry Tuesday before we bring in the standard 20 – 30% chance of a pop-up thunderstorm by midweek. Highs in the upper 80s and low 90s with lows in the 70s.

Tropical Update

Everything is quiet now, with no tropical development expected over the next week. The next storm name on the list is Emily!
