Severe Weather Threat This Afternoon and Evening

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Today
Severe storms are likely in the late afternoon and evening. In addition, look for high temperatures in the mid-90s with dew point in the mid-70s. This will lead to dangerous heat indices near 105°. For this reason, a Heat Advisory has been issued for much of the area from 11am-7pm.
Then by late in the day and into the evening, the heat will help fuel what could be very dangerous storms with winds above 60 mph. The risk of severe storms is high. Please stay weather aware for any watches or warnings. There’s the risk for high winds, along with small hail, lightning, and heavy rainfall.
It’ll be a pretty typical mid-August week in the Charlotte area after Monday’s storms. Mostly sunny and dry Tuesday before we bring in the standard 20 – 30% chance of a pop-up thunderstorm by midweek. Highs in the upper 80s and low 90s with lows in the 70s.
