Tropical Storm Philippe in the Atlantic Ocean, another tropical wave behind it
NEW ORLEANS — Tropical Storm Philippe formed in the Atlantic Ocean on Saturday afternoon. It is expected to turn north over the open ocean through next week and not impact land.
Ophelia weakened to a post-tropical system Saturday night. It made landfall in North Carolina on Saturday morning as a tropical storm and spread rain, gusty winds, and flooding to the eastern US. It will continue to weaken on Sunday.
One more tropical wave near Africa has a chance of development this week, but models are not very aggressive with developing it.
Long-range models keep the Gulf of Mexico and adjacent waters quiet through the next ten days.
