Tornado Watch canceled; severe threat end for the night
The Tornado Watch has been canceled early as the severe threat fades for Central Texas.
AUSTIN, Texas — Earlier Wednesday evening, a tornado passed through the Temple area, and that same storm then prompted a Tornado Warning over Milam County in our KVUE area. While there have been reports of potential tornado damage near Temple, we have not seen reports of the tornado staying on the ground into Milam County. These storm did, however, bring severe winds to the Cameron area with a confirmed wind gust in town up to 60 mph.
The rain-cooled air from storms just to our north has now drifted into our area. This will help to spark some more showers and downpours through Wednesday evening, but the cooler air should also help limit our severe weather potential. At the moment, additional severe warnings in our KVUE area seem unlikely, but of course we’ll need to continue monitoring the latest radar trends.
A Tornado Watch was previously in effect for Burnet, Williamson, Milam and Lee counties through midnight, but it has now been canceled for all but Milam County as our severe threat fades.
After the midnight hour, any lingering rain should dissipate, and then the attention quickly turns to the heat for the Memorial Day weekend. We have our first triple digits of the year in the forecast, and the heat index could hit 110 degrees in some spots.
