Carolina Beach holding ceremony for revitalized marina damaged during Florence
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Carolina Beach is holding a christening ceremony for the recently revitalized Municipal Town Marina on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
The event will take place at the marina, located at 301 Canal Drive, and the public is invited to attend.
The Municipal Marina has been in operation for decades, and after Hurricane Florence in 2018, needed major repairs. The revitalization project began in April 2022 and included installation of a new steel sheet pile bulkhead wall, floating docks, mooring piles, an elevated walkway, access piers, pavement, and other additions.
The primary source of funding for the marina project was obtained through grants from FEMA and The Golden Leaf Foundation, and monies from the state were secured with the help of North Carolina State Representative Charlie Miller, according to a press release.
“The Carolina Beach marina has been the heart of Carolina Beach for many years,” mayor Lynn Barbee said. “Whether it be for a day of sport fishing, a moonlight cruise, SCUBA diving, or just pleasure boating, the Carolina Beach Marina has thrilled many generations.”
The christening ceremony will celebrate all that the marina has to offer and includes multiple guest speakers. After the celebration, Town staff will be on hand to collect public input and answer questions about the final phase of construction for the grassy area on the south side of the marina.
